Primary Duties
- Coordinates all train movements outside of yard limits
- Issues track warrants
Requirements for Qualification Demonstrate complete understanding of the all trackage and control points Demonstrate complete knowledge of the track warrant system Spend one complete session coordinating train movements and issuing track warrants under the supervision of a qualified dispatcher

A Mainline Engineer drives a mainline freight train between division point yards Primary Duties
- Operates a freight train locomotive following all instructions from the conductor
- Picks up or sets out blocks of cars per switchlist
- Assumes the additional role of conductor when operating without one
- Assumes the additional role of switchman when operating without a conductor or switchman
Requirements for Qualification Basic Throttle operations: Start/Stop, Foward/Reverse, Headliight Operations, Emergency Stop Demonstrate knowledge of all mainline trackage and control points (switches and station names) Must know and understand the Operating Rules

A Wayfreight Engineer drives a freight train that performs industrial and road switching jobs Primary Duties
- Operates a freight train locomotive following all instructions from the conductor
- Performs industrial switching jobs per switchlist
- Performs road switching jobs per switchlist
- Assumes the additional role of conductor when operating without one
- Assumes the additional role of switchman when operating without a conductor or switchman
Requirements for Qualification Basic Throttle operations: Start/Stop, Foward/Reverse, Headliight Operations, Emergency Stop Demonstrate knowledge of all mainline trackage and control points (switches and station names) Must know and understand the Operating Rules Demonstrate basic knowledge of switching operations at Coleman, Wausaukee and Pembine

The Conductor directs all movements of a train Primary Duties
- Directs all movements of the train according to Operating Rules
- Communicates with the dispatcher to receive Track Warrants
- Is in charge of the train

The Switchman assists in switching by uncoupling cars and throwing switches Primary Duties
- Performs switching duties per instructions from the Conductor or Engineer
- Uncouples cars and and throws switches during switching operations

The Yardmaster is in charge of everything that happens within the Yard Limits Primary Duties
- Coordinates all inbound & outbound train movements within Yard Limits
- Directs the activities of the Hostler
- Performs yard switching as needed
- Clears the arrival tracks and breaks down trains in a timely manner
- Assembles outbound trains and readies them for departure per switchlists
- Assumes the role of Hostler and/or Power Desk if needed

The Hostler is an employee who operates locomotives in and around the yard under the direction of the yardmaster Primary Duties
- Runs the engine facilities
- Assigns locomotives to the appropriate engineer's throttle
- Makesup and breaksdown engine consists
- Runs motive power to outbound trains in the yard and transfers the throttle to the road engineer
- Takes arriving trains motive power to the engine servicing facilities
- Performs yard switching as needed
- Serves as Powerdesk if that job is not filled

The D&W Power Desk is responsible for assigning locomotive power to all trains
Primary Duties MIXED FREIGHT CARS: 1 - 15 cars = 1 or 2 locomotives at head end 15 - 30 cars = 2 locomotives at head end 30 - 45 cars = 2 locomotives at head end and 1 helper unit 30 cars back 45 - 60 cars = 3 locomotives at head and 2 helper units 30 cars back INTERMODAL: 1 - 15 cars = 1 or 2 locomotives at head end 15 - 30 cars = 2 locomotives at head end 30 - 45 cars = 3 locomotives at head end
